Granfalloon
GRANFALLOON
The granfalloon, is developed by the collective trailer31, in their annual camping trip which was hosted this year by the Univeristy of Ideas. It is a transparant portal made of 2 large inflatable pillows constructed with scrap plastic material, creating a narrow space which constricts movement.
The word granfalloon comes from Kurt Vonnegut novel Cat's Cradle, and describes a social condition where an imagined communitiy of people outwardly choose or claim to have a shared identity or purpose, but whose mutual association is actually meaningless.
The temporary, mobile installation at Cittadellarte represents a possible physical and mental architecture for discussion and presentation in the community. A space that transgresses hermetism and self-reflexion and offers an opening to alter the dominating, pre-existing social conditions. By creating physical constraint allows one to create an alternative mental space, and gives the possibility for indivduals to escape the meaninglessness of a granfalloon.
