ghent - brussels - amsterdam Helmets are a one shot wonder ----     We are invited to join an informal presentation of a dance/new media research project. CassisCaput/~HelmetHead by Nora Heilmann and Sher Doruff The piece involves a number of public webcams (nyc, berlin, london and a'dam (overtoom))and a situationist approach to urban space. dancers (physical performers) will enter each of the webcam spaces and follow a thirty minute score designed for movement and gesture. There will be moments of unison movement. We expect to draw small crowds in some cases and the observers will probably be more interesting than the performers. I plan on zooming in to these spaces which will be displayed in KW. There will be live dancers and a guitarist at de waag. All in motorcycle helmets, jumping around and banging into distorted basses and guitars. I planned to use the spectrum analyser as a control for zooming in the cams but it's very difficult to isolate the frequencies in a meaningful way so i might not do this. We from code31 will do a small intervention. Pieter en Gert will drive on their motorbikes from Brussels to Ghent during the performance. This will take about half an hour = the time of the performance. They have electronics on their helmets and a camera on the motorbike. All data/imagedata is being send to Guy who is at De Waag. We use a wireless internet-connection using a cell-phone. Guy wil recieve this data and use it to alter the audio stream that is being created by the guitar player. The visuals will be shown on a small screen. The electronics on the helmets are simple accelerometers and a compass/hooked up to a basic stamp/hooked up to the computer. Why we drive to ghent?
